Dendrobium Tyabb 'Heather' AM/OSCOV × Flinders 'Sunshine'

Dendrobium Tyabb 'Heather' AM/OSCOV × Flinders 'Sunshine' is an Australian native Dendrobium seedling cross (cross number 5116) bred from two named, awarded cultivars. Tyabb 'Heather' received an Award of Merit from the Orchid Society of Canberra and Orchid Venues, and is known for white flowers with heavy purple-magenta spotting and high flower count; Flinders 'Sunshine' contributes warm yellow tones and vigorous cane production. The photographs show the parent plants. Individual seedlings will vary in flower colour, pattern density, and form — that variation is the nature of a seedling cross.

What to expect

• Flowering: Spring. Racemes of multiple flowers carried on upright to arching spikes above the canes.
• Flowers: Expected range from white to cream to yellow, with variable purple-magenta spotting and barring reflecting the Tyabb parent. Lip colour and pattern will vary across the batch. Individual plants will vary.
• Plant: Upright hard-cane Dendrobium. Supplied as an established seedling.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Hardy and well-suited to outdoor growing in southern Australia. Protect from frost.
• Light: Bright filtered light. Morning sun is beneficial; avoid harsh afternoon exposure.
• Water: Water freely during summer growth. Reduce significantly in autumn and winter — a dry winter rest is important for flowering.
• Feeding: Balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Cease in late autumn through winter.
