Masdevallia Bella Donna 'Prima' × (John Leathers × glandulosa) is a complex hybrid built on 'Prima', an awarded clone of Bella Donna (M. coccinea × M. datura, J. Leathers 1992), crossed onto an unregistered pairing of Masdevallia John Leathers (M. chaparensis × M. calocodon) and the fragrant species M. glandulosa.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single blooms carried on erect spikes clear of the foliage.
• Flowers: White to pale pink base colouring typical of the Bella Donna line, with the potential for the fragrance and refined form contributed by glandulosa. Colour deepens with cooler growing.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia growth habit, suited to cool-growing collections.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained heat — this is the primary cause of failure with Masdevallia.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
