Coelogyne cobbiana, formerly Dendrochilum cobbianum, is one of the longest-cultivated chain orchids, grown since it was described by Reichenbach in 1880. It comes from the mountains of the Philippines and produces arching sprays of small, fragrant, pale flowers with a contrasting lip.
What to expect
- Flowers: Small, pale and fragrant, in long arching chains.
- Plant: Clumping, with a single leaf on each pseudobulb.
- History: One of the few chain orchids traditionally grown in collections long before the recent wave of Philippine species.

About the name
Formerly Dendrochilum cobbianum. It became Coelogyne cobbiana when Dendrochilum was merged into Coelogyne in 2021. Note the double ‘b’ – it is often misspelt ‘cobiana’.
Shipping & condition
Supplied at flowering size – either a mature plant or a division from a plant that has already flowered – grown on in the Dandenong Ranges. Plants are packed on Sunday and sent on Monday. Buds and flowers cannot be guaranteed at time of shipping due to seasonal and environmental factors.
