Coelogyne lagarophylla is the plant long grown as Dendrochilum stenophyllum. It comes from montane forest on Luzon in the Philippines at around 1000 metres. Each slender pseudobulb carries a single grass-like leaf, pleated along its length, and the new growths produce arching spikes up to about 20 cm long, with up to 40 tiny flowers clustered towards the tip.

What to expect

  • Flowers: Tiny (around 4 mm), densely packed near the end of a semi-arching spike.
  • Plant: Compact clumps of narrow, grassy leaves.
  • Flowering: Spikes develop with the new growths.

Growing notes

  • Temperature: Intermediate; tolerates cool nights.
  • Light: Bright filtered light.
  • Water: Keep moist while in growth.
  • Humidity & air: Moderate to high humidity with good air movement.

About the name

Formerly Dendrochilum stenophyllum. When Dendrochilum was merged into Coelogyne in 2021, the name Coelogyne stenophylla was already taken by another species, so this one received a new epithet, lagarophylla. It is the same plant under a new name.

Shipping & condition
