Cymbidium Aart's Dream 'Kurringal' (Cym. floribundum × Cym. Ngaire)

Cymbidium Aart's Dream 'Kurringal' is a miniature mericlone Cymbidium hybrid. It is bred from Cym. floribundum (syn. pumilum), a compact Chinese species with a dark lip and an autumn-flowering habit, crossed with Cym. Ngaire, registered by P.J. Hockey. The floribundum influence shows in the deep burgundy lip and the autumn season. 'Kurringal' is a named cultivar valued for its warm salmon-peach colouring, its floriferous cascading spikes and its reliable autumn performance.

About this plant

• Flowering: Autumn to early winter. Cascading spikes carry 8 to 12 flowers, which hold for six to eight weeks under good conditions.
• Flowers: Warm salmon-peach petals and sepals with a soft pink midrib stripe on each tepal. The lip is deep burgundy-red with white, lightly fringed margins. As a mericlone, the flowers are consistent with the images shown.
• Plant: Compact, miniature size.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, and well suited to southern Australian conditions. It needs cool nights through late summer and autumn to initiate spiking, and it is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. Use 30 to 50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade, and avoid direct midday sun.
• Humidity: Moderate to high.
• Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter, keeping the medium just moist.
• Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season. Switch to a low-nitrogen formula from midsummer onward, then taper off through late autumn and winter.

What you'll receive

A well-established growing plant in a 66mm pot, sold as an SLC (single-lead clone: a mericlone with one lead). It is not yet flowering size, so expect to grow it on before it spikes. It is packed to protect the root system in transit and ships from the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria.
