Cymbidium Aart's Dream 'Kurringal' is a miniature mericlone Cymbidium hybrid bred from Cym. floribundum (syn. pumilum) — a compact Chinese species with dark-lipped, autumn-flowering habit — crossed with Cym. Ngaire, registered by P.J. Hockey. The floribundum influence is clear in the deep burgundy lip and autumn season; 'Kurringal' is a named cultivar valued for its warm salmon-peach colouring, floriferous cascading presentation, and reliable autumn performance.
What to expect
- Flowering: Autumn to early winter. Cascading spikes carrying 8–12 flowers, holding for six to eight weeks under good conditions.
- Flowers: Warm salmon-peach petals and sepals with a soft pink midrib stripe on each tepal. Lip deep burgundy-red with white, lightly fringed margins. As a mericlone, flowers are consistent with the images shown.
- Plant: Compact miniature size. Supplied in a 66mm pot as an established growing plant.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Well-suited to southern Australian conditions. Requires cool nights through late summer and autumn to initiate spiking.
- Light: Bright filtered light. 30–50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade. Avoid direct midday sun.
- Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter while keeping the medium just moist.
- Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season. Switch to a low-nitrogen formula from midsummer onward. Taper off through late autumn and winter.
