Introduce the vibrant, warm hues of Cymbidium Darch Cool ‘Charming Bourne’, a stunning intermediate hybrid famous for its sunset-toned flowers. The segments blush from golden-yellow to soft apricot, beautifully framed by a dramatic, velvety ruby-red lip. Bred for vigour and reliability, this mericlone produces impressive, arching spikes that bring a touch of warm, exotic elegance to any collection.
Care Requirements
- Light: High light is necessary to set buds and achieve optimal colour saturation. Avoid scorching direct sun during the hottest parts of the day.
- Temperature: Cool to Intermediate (10°C – 24°C). The essential cool down (10°C-14°C at night) in Autumn is necessary for effective flower initiation.
- Watering: Keep moisture levels consistent during the active growing season (Spring/Summer). Reduce watering significantly in Winter, allowing the medium to approach dryness.
- Humidity: 50% to 70%. Ensure continuous, gentle air movement to prevent moisture-related spotting and rot.
- Potting: Best suited to a typical bark-based, free-draining Cymbidium mix. Repot every two years or when the container is fully overgrown.
- Fertilizing: Use high-nitrogen fertilizer in Summer for vegetative growth, switching to a high-potassium bloom-booster from late Summer through Autumn.
Genetic History & Provenance
- Parentage: Cymbidium Gladys Whitesell x Cymbidium Vogelsang.
- Hybridizer: Ezi-Gro (2011).
- Registration: Registered with the Royal Horticultural Society.
- Awards: No official awards found for the grex or clone. Highly regarded as a selected mericlone for its unique colouring.
- Note: Stock is offered as a SLC (Single Lead Mericlone), guaranteeing the exact sunset colour and bold lip of the 'Charming Bourne' clone.
Flowering and Maturity Profile
- Season: Typically flowers mid-season (Winter to early Spring).
- Bloom Size: Intermediate size, approximately 8.0–9.5 cm across.
- Coloration: Polychrome sunset colours of gold and yellow with apricot blush. The prominent lip is a deep, solid ruby-red/maroon with a contrasting gold-flecked callus.
- Fragrance: Not officially noted as fragrant.
- Growth Habit: Upright, vigorous foliage producing strong, gracefully arching flower spikes.
