Cymbidium Funky Devon 'Gerald' is a miniature hybrid Cymbidium with a naturally cascading spike habit and high-contrast spotted flowers. The Funky Devon grex is an Australian miniature hybrid known for its spotted presentation, and 'Gerald' is a clone selected for the intensity and density of its burgundy suffusion and spotting across a cream to pale yellow ground.

About this plant

• Flowering: Winter to spring. Cascading spikes carry multiple flowers in descending sprays, which show best when the plant is displayed elevated or in a hanging basket.
• Flowers: Cream to pale yellow, heavily spotted and suffused with deep burgundy, with a dark lip. Flower colour and spike count may vary slightly with plant maturity and seasonal conditions.
• Size: Miniature.

Growing conditions

• Climate: Cool to intermediate temperatures, suited to southern Australian conditions. It needs cool nights, particularly in autumn, to initiate spiking, and it is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. Use 30–50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade, and avoid direct midday sun.
• Humidity: Moderate to high.
• Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter while keeping the medium just moist.
• Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season. Taper off through late autumn and winter.
