Cymbidium Kimberley Gidget 'Katelin'

Cymbidium Kimberley Gidget 'Katelin' is a mericlone Cymbidium hybrid selected for its warm, richly toned flowers and upright spike habit. The Kimberley Gidget grex is a well-regarded Australian hybrid; 'Katelin' (DW 377) is a named cultivar valued for its golden-orange petals with pink-rose veining and a white lip heavily marked with deep crimson spotting.

About this plant

• Flowering: Winter to spring, on upright spikes carrying multiple well-formed flowers. This plant is not yet flowering size, so expect to wait for its first spikes.
• Flowers: Warm golden-orange to apricot petals with pink-rose veining and flush throughout. The white lip has heavy deep crimson spotting, which gives strong contrast. As a mericlone, flowers should be consistent with the images shown.
• Plant: Intermediate type Cymbidium.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, and well suited to southern Australian conditions. It needs cool autumn nights to initiate spiking, and is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. Use 30–50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade, and avoid direct midday sun.
• Humidity: Moderate to high.
• Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter while keeping the medium just moist.
• Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season. Taper off through late autumn and winter.
