Pairs well with
Cymbidium Pure Sarah 'Shooting Star' is a cascading mericlone Cymbidium carrying white flowers of 65–75mm on pendulous spikes. Pure Sarah (Cym. Sarah Jean × Cym. Pure Destiny) was registered by Valley Orchids in 1992; its seed parent Sarah Jean is one of the best-known cascading Cymbidiums, and that weeping spike habit carries through here. As a mericlone, flowers are consistent with the images shown.
About this plant
- Flowering: Winter to spring. Cascading spikes densely set with flowers.
- Flowers: 65–75mm. White petals and sepals with a faint green tint when first open. White lip with a yellow ridge and light golden-yellow spotting, and a creamy-yellow column.
- Growing tip: Grow in a hanging basket or raised pot so the spikes can hang freely.
- Parentage: Cym. Sarah Jean × Cym. Pure Destiny (registered 1992, Valley Orchids).
Growing conditions
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Well suited to southern Australian conditions. It requires cool autumn nights to initiate spiking, and is not suitable for warm climates.
- Light: Bright filtered light. 30–50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade. Avoid direct midday sun.
- Humidity: Moderate to high.
- Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter while keeping the medium just moist.
