Pairs well with

Cymbidium Ruby Valley 'Clare' is a mericlone Cymbidium hybrid with deep, saturated crimson-red flowers on upright spikes. The Ruby Valley grex is an Australian hybrid in the dark red Cymbidium tradition. 'Clare' (DW 386) is valued for its rich, even crimson colour across broad, well-formed petals and a dark, strongly patterned lip.

About this plant

  • Flowering: Winter to spring, with multiple well-formed flowers on each upright spike.
  • Flowers: Deep, even crimson-red across broad, rounded petals, with a white lip heavily marked in dark burgundy-black. As a mericlone, the flowers should match the clone shown in the images.
  • Plant: Standard size.

Growing conditions

  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate, and well suited to southern Australian conditions. It needs cool autumn nights to initiate spiking, and it is not suited to warm climates.
  • Light: Bright filtered light. Use 30–50% shade cloth or dappled outdoor shade, and avoid direct midday sun.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high.
  • Water: Water freely during spring and summer growth. Reduce frequency in winter, keeping the medium just moist.
  • Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season. Taper off through late autumn and winter.
