Dendrobium Angus is an Australian native Dendrobium hybrid (cross number 5370), bred from Tyabb 'Leanne' × speciosum 'Chloe'. Tyabb 'Leanne' is a compact kingianum-alliance hybrid with upright canes and strong colour; D. speciosum 'Chloe' is a clean yellow form of the rock orchid, contributing robust plant stature, fragrance, and prolific spring spike production. The photographs show the parent plants. Individual seedlings will vary in flower colour and form.
What to expect
- Flowering: Spring. Long spikes carrying multiple flowers, reflecting the speciosum parentage.
- Flowers: Expected yellow to cream, with potential for lip markings and tonal variation drawing on the Tyabb parent. Fragrance likely. Individual plants will vary.
- Plant: Larger and more robust than a standard kingianum hybrid, reflecting the speciosum influence. Forms clumping growth over time.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Hardy and cold-tolerant when established. A cool winter dry rest supports spring flowering.
- Light: Full sun to bright filtered light. The speciosum parentage increases light and heat tolerance.
- Water: Regular through the growing season; restrict through winter rest.
- Feeding: Balanced fertiliser through spring and summer, reduced from late autumn.
