Dendrobium Brimbank Uluṟu 'Chris' × speciosum 'Superstar' is an Australian native Dendrobium seedling cross (cross number 5021) bred from two well-regarded parents. Brimbank Uluṟu is a registered Australian hybrid known for warm golden-yellow to apricot colouring and strong upright canes; speciosum 'Superstar' contributes the robust vigour, fragrance, and prolific flowering habit characteristic of the best speciosum clones. The photographs show the parent plants. Individual seedlings will vary in flower colour, form, and patterning — that variation is the nature of a seedling cross.

What to expect

  • Flowering: Late winter to spring. Racemes of multiple flowers carried on upright to arching spikes above the canes.
  • Flowers: Expected range from warm yellow to apricot-gold, potentially with fine markings or lip contrast reflecting both parents. Fragrance likely, inheriting from the speciosum parent. Individual plants will vary.
  • Plant: Upright hard-cane Dendrobium. Supplied as an established seedling.

Growing notes

  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Hardy and well-suited to outdoor growing in southern Australia. Protect from frost.
  • Light: Bright filtered light. Morning sun is beneficial; avoid harsh afternoon exposure.
  • Water: Water freely during summer growth. Reduce significantly in autumn and winter — a dry winter rest is important for flowering.
  • Feeding: Balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Cease in late autumn through winter.
