About the Cross

A three-species Dockrillia complex with no registered grex name — this one is for the collector who wants something genuinely unusual. The seed parent is itself an unregistered hybrid: sp. aff. calamiformis 'Tully' — a terete-leafed form from the Tully region of far north Queensland, closely related to Dockrillia calamiformis but not definitively assigned to that species — crossed with Dockrillia nugentii, the Northern Thumbnail Orchid, a flat-leafed highland Queensland species more closely related to D. linguiforme. That pairing alone brings together very different leaf forms and flower characters. The pollen parent is Dockrillia brevicauda 'GD', a George Dimos-selected clone of the rare Mt Finnigan rainforest species used previously in this listing. With three Queensland species in the background — two of them from highland rainforest habitats — seedlings from this cross will be variable and unpredictable. Flower colour, form and plant habit could go in several directions, and that is precisely the point. Best grown mounted or in a basket with excellent airflow.

What You'll Receive

Established seedlings in 66mm pots, grown in the Dandenong Ranges. Not yet flowered. Individual results will vary — that's the nature of a seedling cross and part of what makes it worthwhile.
