About the Cross
A cross between two well-established Dockrillia parents with complementary strengths. Grumpy 'George' is a cultivar of the registered RHS hybrid Dockrillia Grumpy (Dendrobium Aussie Phil × Dendrobium striolatum), selected by George Dimos and known for its large, broad-segmented flowers with strong striation. The pollen parent, Dockrillia schoenina 'Compact', is a selected form of the Common Pencil Orchid — a terete-leafed species native to eastern Australia from the NSW coast to central Queensland, typically producing yellowish-green flowers blotched with dark purple, in cascading sprays during winter and spring. The 'Compact' cultivar name signals a more restrained growth habit than the species normally produces, which is a useful trait to introduce into a cross. Together, these two parents bring significant striation from the Grumpy side and the distinctive colour character of schoenina — seedlings could show a range of outcomes, but dark markings and good flower presence are reasonable expectations. Suited to mounting or basket culture with a dry winter rest and good airflow. Also listed as Dockrillia by Australian growers.
What You'll Receive
Established seedlings in 66mm pots, grown in the Dandenong Ranges. Not yet flowered. Individual results will vary — that's the nature of a seedling cross and part of what makes it worthwhile.
