This is a self cross of Dendrobium (syn. Dockrillia) Hot and Grumpy 'Yellow Stripes', a terete pencil-type orchid with cascading flower spikes. Because the seedlings come from a named yellow, striped cultivar crossed back on itself, they are more likely to carry that parent's character than seedlings from an outcross.
About this cross
The pollen comes from the same plant, used back on itself. Hot and Grumpy is a registered Dockrillia hybrid (Den. [Doc.] Hot and Grumpy, RHS registered) with complex section Rhizobium breeding. It combines the influence of Dendrobium Grumpy, known for large, broad segments and strong striation, with the colour intensity associated with Hot Coals parentage. 'Yellow Stripes' is a yellow-flowered, striped selection of this grex.
Selfing concentrates the cultivar's genetics, but some variation is inevitable, and the best results will only show at flowering.
Growing conditions
- Growth habit: terete, with cascading spikes. Suited to mounting or basket culture with good airflow and a dry winter rest.
- Light: bright filtered light.
- Temperature: 5°C to 26°C. Cool nights are required.
- Humidity: 60% or higher.
- Climate: cool to intermediate.
What you'll receive
