This is a terete-leafed Dockrillia (Dendrobium) seedling from two dark-flowered hybrids, Memoria Jean Deas 'Dark' × Tweetie 'GD'. It suits growers who enjoy raising a batch of seedlings and seeing how the colour and markings turn out.

About this plant

This is the reverse of our Tweetie 'GD' × Memoria Jean Deas 'Dark' listing: same parents, with the seed and pollen roles swapped. Both parents are terete-leafed Dockrillia hybrids from the section Rhizobium group, and both carry Dendrobium fuliginosum in their background, so this cross has a double dose of fuliginosum influence. That tends to push colour intensity. Memoria Jean Deas 'Dark', the seed parent here, is a clone selected for particularly deep, spotted flowers, so dark, richly marked flowers are a reasonable expectation across the batch. Individual seedlings will vary, as they do with this kind of breeding, and that variation is part of the appeal.

Growing conditions

• Habit: compact and pendulous, with cascading spikes. It suits mounting or basket culture with good airflow.
• Light: bright filtered light.
• Temperature: 5°C – 26°C. It needs cool nights.
• Humidity: 60% or higher.
• Climate: cool to intermediate.

What you'll receive

Established seedlings in 66mm pots, grown in the Dandenong Ranges. They have not yet flowered and are not yet flowering size. Individual results will vary, as with any seedling cross.
