A Dendrobium seedling from cross 5361, Graham Hewitt 'Kim' x Starsheen 'Botanic Fireworks'. Both parents are known for strong colour and pattern, which makes this a cross worth growing on to see what it produces.
About the cross
Graham Hewitt is a classic registered Australian hybrid, Den. Ellen x Den. speciosum, bred by W.T. Upton in 1981. The 'Kim' clone shows that background: elongated, spidery flowers with cream petals and deep burgundy-purple striping from the Ellen parent. Starsheen 'Botanic Fireworks' is bold yellow with deep burgundy spotting, and is one of the most recognisable clones in Australian native breeding. The cross is expected to give strong colour contrast, interesting patterning and good spike habit.
Growing conditions
- Light: bright filtered light
- Temperature: 5°C – 24°C, and it needs cool nights
