This is a seedling of Dendrobium Lookout 'Showoff' x speciosum 'Snowdrift' (cross number NM 5993). It pairs a compact Lookout clone that has a vivid purple-red lip with a white form of Dendrobium speciosum, so it suits growers who want to raise a speciosum-type cross from seedling.
About the cross
Lookout 'Showoff' has compact, well-presented flowers with cream petals and a vivid purple-red lip. The pollen parent, speciosum 'Snowdrift', is a white form of the species. It is uncommon and well regarded among collectors for its clean presentation and generous spike.
From this combination we would expect good cane vigour from the speciosum side, cream to white flowers, and the defined lip colour of the Lookout parent. These are expectations only. The plants have not flowered, and individual results will vary, as they do with any seedling cross.
