Dendrobium Newbold Regalsheen 'Sunshine' × speciosum 'Windermere' HCC is a hybrid bred from two Australian Dendrobiums with strong speciosum influence. Newbold Regalsheen is a hybrid from the kingianum alliance; D. speciosum 'Windermere' HCC is an awarded cultivar of the rock orchid, recognised for its long pendulous spikes and clean yellow colouring. The photographs show the two parent plants. Seedling flowers will draw on both parents and will vary between individual plants.

What to expect

  • Flowering: Spring. Long spikes carrying multiple flowers, reflecting the speciosum parentage.
  • Flowers: Expected to draw on both parents — narrow olive-yellow petals with red-brown spotting and a burgundy lip from Newbold Regalsheen 'Sunshine', and clean yellow from D. speciosum 'Windermere' HCC. Exact colour and pattern will vary between individual plants.
  • Plant: Robust and larger than standard kingianum-alliance hybrids. Forms spreading clumps over time with the characteristic growth habit of D. speciosum.

Growing notes

  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Hardy and cold-tolerant when established. A cool winter dry rest supports spring flowering.
  • Light: Full sun to bright filtered light. The speciosum parentage increases light and heat tolerance compared to standard kingianum hybrids.
  • Water: Regular through the growing season; restrict through winter rest.
  • Feeding: Balanced fertiliser through spring and summer, reduced from late autumn.
