Dendrobium Saigon Surprised 'Leanne' × speciosum 'Chloe'

Dendrobium Saigon Surprised 'Leanne' × speciosum 'Chloe' is an unregistered Australian native seedling cross (cross number 5404). It combines the deep magenta to wine-purple colour of Saigon Surprised 'Leanne' with the size, fragrance and spike production of a yellow D. speciosum. The seedlings are expected to be larger and more vigorous than standard kingianum hybrids.

About this plant

Saigon Surprised 'Leanne' is a cultivar with rich, saturated magenta to wine-purple flowers and a pale throat. D. speciosum 'Chloe' is a clean yellow form of the rock orchid. It contributes robust plant stature, fragrance and prolific spring spike production. Expect variation between individual plants.

• Flowers: Magenta to wine-purple, likely softened toward cream or pale tones in some seedlings because of the speciosum influence. Long spikes with multiple flowers.
• Season: Spring.
• Size: Medium to large blooms, reflecting the speciosum parentage.
• Fragrance: Possible, from the speciosum parent.

Growing conditions

• Climate: Cool to intermediate.
• Temperature: 5°C – 24°C. Frost protection required.
• Light: Full sun to bright filtered light. The speciosum parentage increases light and heat tolerance.
• Humidity: 50% or higher.
• Watering: Regular through the growing season; restrict through winter rest.
• Potting: Free-draining mix. A dry winter rest is important for flowering.
