Dendrobium Tyabb 'Rosy Cheeks' × Starsheen 'Botanic Fireworks'

Dendrobium Tyabb 'Rosy Cheeks' × Starsheen 'Botanic Fireworks' is an Australian native Dendrobium seedling cross (cross number 5890) bred from two contrasting parent lines. Tyabb 'Rosy Cheeks' contributes rounded, classic-form magenta-pink flowers with white flaring; Starsheen 'Botanic Fireworks' is a spidery, star-shaped bicolour clone in warm yellow-orange with a bright red-orange lip. The photographs show the parent plants — expect seedlings to combine traits from both lines, so flower form and colour will vary noticeably across the batch.

What to expect

• Flowering: Spring. Multiple flowers per spike, arising from mature canes.
• Flowers: Wide range expected — anywhere from rounded pink/magenta form to narrower star-shaped orange/red segments. Individual seedlings will vary.
• Plant: Compact upright hard-cane habit. Supplied in an 80mm pot as an established seedling.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Hardy and well-suited to outdoor growing in southern Australia. Protect from frost.
• Light: Bright filtered light. Morning sun is beneficial; avoid harsh afternoon exposure.
• Water: Water freely during summer growth. Reduce significantly in autumn and winter — a dry winter rest is important for flowering.
• Feeding: Balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Cease in late autumn through winter.
