Dendrobium Victorian Flare 'Solid Violet Lip' HCC × speciosum 'Amanda' is an unregistered Australian native seedling cross. It suits growers who like patterned, compact dendrobiums and are happy to see how each seedling turns out. The plants are expected to carry magenta-violet markings over a pale background.

About this plant

Victorian Flare is a registered hybrid with strong kingianum influence. The 'Solid Violet Lip' clone is HCC-awarded and noted for dense, heavily patterned flowers with a solid dark lip. Crossed with speciosum 'Amanda', the seedlings are expected to make compact, upright plants. Expect variation between individual plants, as with any seedling cross.

• Flowers: patterned magenta or violet over pale cream or white, with a solid deep lip. Density of markings and base colour will vary between plants.
• Season: late winter to spring.
• Size: medium blooms, approximately 4–5.5 cm across.
• Fragrance: possibly light, given the speciosum parent.

Growing conditions

Suited to cool to intermediate climates. Frost protection is required.

• Temperature: 5°C – 24°C.
• Light: bright filtered light. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
• Humidity: 50% or higher, with good air movement.
• Watering: allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings. Reduce in winter.
• Potting: coarse, free-draining mix. It prefers to be slightly pot-bound.

What you'll receive

An established seedling in an 80mm pot, grown in the Dandenong Ranges. It is NFS (near flowering size): close to flowering, but not yet at flowering size and not yet flowered. Photos show the parent plants, so individual results will vary.
