Dracuvallia 'Chartreuse' is a selected clone of an Australian-grown intergeneric hybrid between Dracula and Masdevallia. Its pale yellow-green flowers with a contrasting pink-red lip centre are genuinely unusual — a colour combination rarely seen in this alliance. If you've been wanting to explore the Dracula world but find the full species intimidating, a Dracuvallia is the logical first step. More approachable than a pure Dracula, with the same dramatic pendant flower character. This is a division of the selected clone.
What to expect
- Flowering: Single flowers on pendant spikes emerging from the base of the plant. Pale yellow-green with a vivid pink-red lip centre and long drooping tails — striking and unusual.
- Plant: Compact growth habit. Generally more forgiving than pure Dracula species, making it a good introduction to basket-grown cool-growing orchids.
Growing notes
- Potting — important: Flower spikes emerge from the base and hang downward. Must be grown in a basket, net pot, or open-sided container so spikes can emerge and hang freely. A closed pot will prevent flowering.
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained heat.
- Light: Filtered shade. More shade in summer, brighter in winter.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. High humidity is essential — do not allow to dry out.
- Humidity & air: Very high humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
