Dracuvallia Fleur 'Ember' is a selected clone of this primary hybrid between Masdevallia veitchiana and Dracula gigas, registered by Hillsview in 1997. The cross brings together the bold orange colouring and size of veitchiana with the distinctive pendant form and expressive flower character of Dracula gigas — the result is something genuinely unlike a typical Masdevallia. 'Ember' has been selected for its rich warm amber-orange colouring and strong flower presentation. This is a division of that selected clone.

What to expect

  • Flowering: Single flowers produced on pendant spikes that emerge from the base of the plant. Flowers are large, warm amber-orange with yellow interior tones and long swept tails — the Dracula gigas influence gives them a distinctive face-like character when viewed front-on.
  • Plant: Compact growth habit, similar in size to a Masdevallia. More forgiving of cultural variation than many Masdevallia according to experienced growers.

Growing notes

  • Potting — important: Flower spikes emerge from the base and sides of the plant and hang downward. This plant must be grown in a basket, net pot, or open-sided container so the spikes can emerge freely. A standard closed pot will prevent flowering.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Both parents are high-altitude Andean cloud forest plants. Avoid sustained heat.
  • Light: Filtered shade. 70% shade in summer, brighter in winter.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. High humidity is essential — roots must never dry out completely.
  • Humidity & air: Very high humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.

Shipping & condition
