Masdevallia Falcata × peristeria

Masdevallia Falcata × peristeria combines the Falcata grex (M. coccinea × M. veitchiana) with the species M. peristeria, a cool-growing Colombian and Ecuadorian species known for its large, waxy, crimson-spotted flowers.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single blooms carried on erect spikes clear of the foliage.
• Flowers: Warm orange with fine red venation through the segments, a red heart-shaped column, and elongated tails — good substance and size from the peristeria influence.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia growth habit, suited to cool-growing collections.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained heat — this is the primary cause of failure with Masdevallia.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
