Masdevallia Hot Shot 'Best'

Masdevallia Hot Shot 'Best' is a named clonal selection of this hybrid (M. John Tomaschke × M. Partizan), registered by C. Halls in 2007. Both parents bring warm, saturated colouring, and Hot Shot is valued for combining that intensity with a compact, reliable-flowering plant that tolerates warmer conditions better than most Masdevallia.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single blooms carried on erect spikes clear of the foliage. Flowers well even in warmer climates, unusual for the genus.
• Flowers: Warm orange-red tones with good substance, typical of the Hot Shot grex.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia growth habit; more heat-tolerant than typical cool-growing Masdevallia.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to warm — one of the more heat-tolerant Masdevallia hybrids, though it still benefits from cooler nights where possible.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
