Masdevallia coccinea var. lindenii is a colour form of the iconic Colombian species, distinguished by its vivid cerise-magenta flowers and striking bright yellow eye — more intensely coloured than the typical red forms and immediately recognisable on the show bench. 'Flamenco' is a selected clone of this variety, chosen for its exceptional colour saturation, large broad laterals, and strong spike. This is a division of that selected plant.
What to expect
- Flowering: Single flowers on tall erect spikes held well above the foliage. Flowers spring through autumn.
- Flowers: Large, broad lateral sepals in vivid cerise-magenta with a bright yellow eye at the centre and a long upright dorsal tail. Colour is intense and consistent in this clone.
- Plant: Medium-sized Masdevallia, robust for the genus. A strong grower when kept cool and moist.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to cold. M. coccinea originates from the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia at 2,440–3,600 m. Avoid sustained warmth.
- Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
- Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
