Masdevallia Curacao 'Hamish' FCC/AOC

Masdevallia Curacao is a P.&V.Ling hybrid registered in 2011, a cross of Masdevallia Falcata × Masdevallia Midas Touch. Further back, the grex draws on M. veitchiana, M. coccinea, M. macrura and M. triangularis, giving the warm, golden-apricot colouring typical of the cross. 'Hamish' is a selected clone that has received an FCC/AOC, a First Class Certificate, the highest tier of award given by the Australian Orchid Council.

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage. Well-established plants can carry multiple spikes at once.
• Flowers: Warm, golden-apricot tones typical of the Curacao grex.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, 5°C to 22°C. Cool nights are required. Avoid sustained warmth; this plant is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. There are no pseudobulbs, so do not allow it to dry out.
• Humidity & air: Humidity of 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
