Masdevallia Deimos is a primary hybrid registered by T. Hill in 1989 — a cross of two genuinely miniature species, Masdevallia barlaeana × M. nidifica. M. barlaeana contributes a coral-red, triangular flower on a compact clumping plant from Colombia, Ecuador and Peru; M. nidifica, one of the smallest species in the genus, adds its long, fine tails and pale, red-marked colouring. The result is a true miniature — an easy, floriferous little hybrid that punches well above its size.
What to expect
- Flowering: Small flowers on fine, thread-like spikes with long, slender tails — can flower repeatedly through the year.
- Flowers: Coral-pink to peach tones with deeper pink-red markings, true to its miniature parentage.
- Plant: Genuinely tiny — a compact, clumping miniature suited to close-up display or a crowded bench.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
- Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs — do not allow to dry out.
- Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
