Pairs well with
Masdevallia floribunda is a mini-miniature to small species from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica, growing as a tufted epiphyte in damp forests at elevations of 400–1500 metres. First described by Lindley in 1843.
About this plant
- Flowering: Blooms from late spring through early autumn, with a slender inflorescence carrying a single flower (often followed by a second) held just above the leaves.
- Flowers: Pale yellow, triangular, spotted with brown-purple.
- Plant: Compact, densely tufted growth habit.
Growing conditions
- Temperature: Unusually tolerant of warmth for a Masdevallia. It is one of the few species in the genus that grows well in cool to warm conditions rather than requiring cold nights. Suited to 12°C – 27°C.
- Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves, so do not allow it to dry out.
- Humidity & air: Humidity of 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
