Masdevallia floribunda (species)

Masdevallia floribunda is a mini-miniature to small species from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica, growing as a tufted epiphyte in damp forests at elevations of 400–1500 metres. First described by Lindley in 1843.

What to expect

• Flowering: Blooms from late spring through early fall, with a slender inflorescence carrying a single flower (often followed by a second) held just above the leaves.
• Flowers: Pale yellow, triangular, spotted with brown-purple.
• Plant: Compact, densely tufted growth habit.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Unusually tolerant of warmth for a Masdevallia — one of the few species in the genus that grows well in cool to warm conditions rather than requiring cold nights.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
