Masdevallia Frosty Stripes 'Lilac Snow'

Masdevallia Frosty Stripes 'Lilac Snow' is a selected clone of the Frosty Stripes grex, a hybrid known for unusually large, broad sepals and a bold radiating pattern at the centre: a deep red-orange triangle that bleeds outward into fine lilac-pink veining across a near-white ground. 'Lilac Snow' was selected for the clarity of that contrast. The ground colour is particularly pale and frost-like, and the central marking reads sharply against it.

About this plant

• Flowering: Single flowers on spikes, held at or above foliage height. Free-flowering under good conditions, and capable of multiple flushes.
• Flowers: Broad, rounded sepals in near-white to pale lilac-pink, with a prominent red-orange central blaze that radiates as fine lilac veining across the full sepal surface. The striped effect is clearest in the lateral sepals. The tails are long, slender and dark maroon-red, and all three are well developed. The flower is larger than most Masdevallia hybrids and notably broad across the face.
• Plant: Vigorous, small standard habit with broad strap-like foliage. It grows larger than the typical miniature Masdevallia and benefits from a slightly larger pot accordingly.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, 5°C to 22°C. Needs cool nights. Avoid sustained warmth, as it is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. With no pseudobulbs there are no water reserves, so do not allow it to dry out.
• Humidity & air: Humidity of 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water is preferred.
