Masdevallia Heathii × Rein Staal 'Tequila Sunrise' is a selected clone from this unregistered cross between two well-proven hybrids. Masdevallia Heathii (M. ignea × M. veitchiana) is a historic 1899 primary hybrid renowned for its large inflated flowers and vigorous habit. Masdevallia Rein Staal is an Australian-bred hybrid from the C.Halls stable, widely used in breeding for its colour and vigour. 'Tequila Sunrise' was selected from this cross as the standout plant — chosen for its exceptional golden-orange flowers with a vivid magenta-pink centre flash. This is a division of that selected clone.

Both parents are known as robust, free-flowering hybrids. This cross inherits that vigour, making 'Tequila Sunrise' one of the more accessible cool-growing Masdevallia for growers new to the genus.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage. Capable of carrying multiple spikes simultaneously. Flowers spring through summer.
• Flowers: Large, inflated golden-orange lateral sepals with a vivid magenta-pink flash through the centre and a long orange dorsal tail. Bold and showy.
