Masdevallia huebschiana 'Confetti'

Masdevallia huebschiana is a small, cold-growing species native to the western Andean slopes of Ecuador and adjacent northern Peru, found at elevations of 1,600–3,000 m. It is now most often catalogued under its currently accepted name, Masdevallia polysticta ("the many-spotted masdevallia", from the Greek poly, many, and stictus, spotted), which describes its densely spotted flowers. 'Confetti' is a distinct clone from the other polysticta selections in our catalogue ('John', 'CA'). Each is its own individual plant.

About this plant

• Flowers: Small, white to cream flowers densely covered in dark maroon-purple spotting across all segments. Sepal margins are finely fringed with short white hairs. The lip and column are yellow-orange. Three slender, curving yellow tails extend well beyond the sepals.
• Habit: Multiple flowers are held at the same time along a slender raceme that arises from among the foliage, rather than one flower per stem.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: 3°C – 18°C. It comes from high-altitude Andean cloud forest, grows cool to cold, and needs cool nights. It is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light, with no direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. It has no pseudobulbs, so do not let it dry out.
• Humidity and air: 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water is preferred.
