Masdevallia Hugh Rogers 'Stripes'

Masd. Hugh Rogers is a registered grex (RHS, 8 Oct 1993, originated by Stonehurst O.N., registered by M. Rathbone). It combines two Bolivian/Peruvian high-altitude species: seed parent Masd. amabilis (northern/central Peru, 2,000–5,300 m) and pollen parent Masd. yungasensis (Bolivian Yungas cloud forest, 2,000–3,000 m).

About this plant

• Flowers: Broad, rounded kite form. The fused lateral sepals form two large lobes, and a single long, slender dorsal tail stands upright. The ground colour is warm orange-red with darker pink-red veining, and there is a bright yellow-orange throat with distinctive dark maroon markings at the column. One flower per stem.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool growing, following both parents' high-altitude Andean/Bolivian cloud forest origin. Suited to 3°C – 18°C (cool to intermediate) and needs cool nights. Not suitable for warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light, with no direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. There are no pseudobulbs to store water, so do not allow it to dry out. Rainwater or RO water is preferred.
• Humidity and air: 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement.

An established division of the clone 'Stripes', at flowering size. Buds and flowers cannot be guaranteed at the time of shipping, due to seasonal and environmental factors.
