Masdevallia Inca Prince × triangularis 'Aztec Gold' is a selected clone from this unregistered cross between two outstanding parents. Masdevallia Inca Prince (M. veitchiana × M. Angel Frost, Ray Thomson 1994) contributes vigour and size; Masdevallia triangularis, a Colombian and Ecuadorian cloud forest species, brings its distinctive pointed flower form, warm amber-yellow colouring, and exceptional floriferous habit. The result is something genuinely spectacular. 'Aztec Gold' was selected from this cross for its rich amber-gold colouring, red-purple spotting, and extraordinary specimen performance — as the photos show, a well-grown plant will carry flowers all around the plant simultaneously. This is a division of that selected clone.

What to expect

  • Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes produced freely all around the plant. A mature specimen in good condition will carry a remarkable number of simultaneous spikes — the triangularis influence makes this one of the more floriferous plants in the collection.
  • Flowers: Warm amber-gold with red-purple spotting throughout and long crimson tails. The pointed sepal form is distinctive — more angular than typical veitchiana-influenced hybrids.
  • Plant: Vigorous and free-flowering. Grows into an impressive specimen over time.

Growing notes

  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Both parents are Andean cloud forest plants. Avoid sustained warmth.
  • Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
  • Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.

Shipping & condition
