About this plant
Masdevallia King of Kings 'Carry the Crown' AM/AOC is a selected clone of this P.L. Jackson hybrid (Masdevallia Copper Queen × M. veitchiana), registered in 2003. The King of Kings grex produces some of the largest flowers in the cool-growing Masdevallia world. 'Carry the Crown' received an Award of Merit from the Australian Orchid Council, and was selected for its vivid orange colour, long elegant tails and overall floral presence.
- Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clearly above the foliage. Well-established plants can carry multiple spikes.
- Flowers: Vivid orange with fine darker speckling across the sepals, long narrow tails and a sculptural form. The AM/AOC reflects the strong colour, good substance and precise form of this clone under judging.
- Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.
Growing conditions
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate, 5°C – 22°C. It needs cool nights and is not suited to warm climates. Avoid sustained warmth.
- Light: Bright filtered light. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. It has no pseudobulbs, so do not allow it to dry out.
- Humidity & air: 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
