Masdevallia King of King's Royal Monarch HCC/AOC

Masdevallia King of King's 'Royal Monarch' HCC/AOC is a selected clone of this P.L. Jackson hybrid (Masdevallia Copper Queen × M. veitchiana), registered in 2003. The cross builds on the veitchiana lineage with Copper Queen — itself a large-flowered orange hybrid — producing flowers of exceptional scale, elongated form, and bold colour. 'Royal Monarch' received a Highly Commended Certificate from the Australian Orchid Council, recognising the quality of this clone under judging.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage. Can carry multiple spikes on well-established plants.
• Flowers: Large, elongated flowers in saturated orange tones with a strong dorsal sepal and pronounced lateral extension. Bold and sculptural — the scale and form reflect the concentrated veitchiana lineage.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
