Masdevallia King of Kings 'Zabeel' is a named awarded clone of this P.L. Jackson hybrid (Masd. Copper Queen × Masd. veitchiana), registered in 2003. King of Kings is among the most heavily awarded Masdevallia hybrids in Australian orchid showing — its combination of large flower size, intense orange colouring, and dense spotting has made it a consistent benchmark on the show bench. 'Zabeel' is one of the standout clones in this grex, with a proven record of taking top honours at both open shows and specialist Masdevallia competitions. This is a division of that awarded clone.
What to expect
- Flowering: Single flowers on tall erect spikes held well clear of the foliage. Capable of multiple spikes simultaneously. Can rebloom throughout the year.
- Flowers: Large, vivid orange with dense red-purple spotting across all sepal surfaces and a long dark crimson tail. Bold, heavily marked, and immediately eye-catching — exactly what the show bench rewards.
- Plant: Vigorous and free-flowering. One of the more robust cool-growing hybrids, reflecting the strength of both parents.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
- Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
- Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
