Masdevallia (Latin Sun × Midas Touch) 'Val' is a selected clone of this unregistered cross between two proven show hybrids. Latin Sun (M. veitchiana × M. triangularis) is a warm yellow-orange hybrid valued for its clean flower presentation and good substance; Midas Touch (M. veitchiana × M. triangularis also, via a different cross sequence) brings the same lineage with a richer, more golden-orange result — both parents drawing on veitchiana for scale and triangularis for warmth of colour. 'Val' sits in the golden-amber range, combining the best of both with a flower that is warm rather than vivid, and refined rather than heavy. Selected for its consistent presentation and well-balanced outline.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clearly above the foliage. Can carry multiple spikes on well-established plants.
• Flowers: Warm golden-amber flowers with good substance and clean proportional balance. A composed flower — vivid enough to have presence on a show bench, refined enough to not overwhelm a collection.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs — do not allow to dry out.
