Masdevallia maloi 'Franklin' is a named clonal selection of this rare cool-growing species from the cloud forests of Peru, where it grows as an epiphyte at elevation in conditions of high humidity and constant air movement.
'Franklin' produces distinctively triangular, golden-amber flowers with a rich maroon central marking and long, upswept tails that give the flower a striking architectural quality. Flowers are produced singly on upright stems and held clear of the neat, strap-leafed foliage. As a named clone, the flower form and colour shown in the photographs is what you can expect from this plant.
A true species valued both as a collectible in its own right and as a parent plant in cool-growing hybrid breeding. Rarely available in Australia.
