Masdevallia (Marguerite × macrura) 'Sunshine' is a selected clone of this unregistered primary cross between two well-proven Masdevallia species. M. Marguerite (M. veitchiana × M. triangularis) contributes bold warm colouring and flower size; M. macrura, a robust Colombian species, contributes the extraordinarily elongated tails and heavy substance for which the cross is immediately recognisable. 'Sunshine' has been selected for its bright, clear yellow-orange colouring and the clean line of its extended tails.
What to expect
- Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage.
- Flowers: Bright yellow-orange with extended, slender tails inherited from macrura. A clean, uncluttered colour presentation with good substance and a strong outline.
- Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.
Growing notes
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
- Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs — do not allow to dry out.
- Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
