Masdevallia (Marguerite × macrura) ‘Sunshine’

Masdevallia (Marguerite × macrura) 'Sunshine' is a selected clone of an unregistered cross between the hybrid M. Marguerite (M. veitchiana × M. triangularis) and the species M. macrura. Marguerite contributes bold warm colouring and flower size. M. macrura, a robust Colombian species, contributes the extraordinarily elongated tails and heavy substance for which the cross is immediately recognisable. 'Sunshine' has been selected for its bright, clear yellow-orange colouring and the clean line of its extended tails.

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage.
• Flowers: Bright yellow-orange with extended, slender tails inherited from macrura. A clean, uncluttered colour presentation with good substance and a strong outline.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit, vigorous when cool conditions are met.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, 5°C – 22°C. It needs cool nights and avoids sustained warmth, so it is not suited to warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. There are no pseudobulbs to store water, so do not allow it to dry out.
• Humidity and air: Humidity of 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water is preferred.
