Masdevallia Peppermint Glow 'Morade'

Masdevallia Peppermint Glow 'Morade' is a selected clone of this Ray Thomson hybrid (M. infracta × Masdevallia Harlequin), registered in 1991. Harlequin is itself a primary hybrid between M. yungasensis and M. uniflora, bringing striated colouring and compact floriferous habit; infracta contributes warm pink-magenta tones and the reblooming spike habit that makes this cross so practical in cultivation. The result is a charming and distinctive plant — upright cupped flowers in bright cerise-pink with a luminous cream-yellow centre and long yellow-green tails, carried on compact bright green foliage.

An important cultural note inherited from the infracta parent: do not cut the flower spikes when blooming finishes — they will rebloom from the same spike in subsequent seasons.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes. Spikes are reblooming — leave them intact after flowering. Can produce multiple spikes simultaneously.
• Flowers: Upright, cupped bright cerise-pink with a cream-yellow centre and long yellow-green tails. A cheerful, distinctive flower quite unlike the typical Masdevallia colour palette.
• Plant: Compact with bright green foliage. More forgiving than strictly cool-growing hybrids.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. More tolerant than many Masdevallia.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. Do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
• Spikes: Do not remove old flower spikes — they will rebloom from the same stem in subsequent seasons.
