Masdevallia Pichincha is a Ray Thomson hybrid registered in 1993 — a cross of Masd. Copper Angel × M. calocodon. Copper Angel itself carries M. veitchiana and M. triangularis in its background, giving Pichincha the striking colour of veitchiana-line hybrids with the refined form of calocodon. 'Cape View' is one of the cream-based colour group clones from this cross, holding multiple awards (3 recorded 2000–2005) including AM/AOC — one of two top clones from this grex in our collection, alongside 'Eruption' HCC/OSCOV.

What to expect

  • Flowers: Cream-yellow ground colour with fine magenta-red pinstripe veining radiating from the throat, a small dark red central mark at the column, and slender curling tails. A well-flowered, floriferous clone producing many blooms per plant.

Growing notes

  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
  • Light: Bright filtered shade, no direct midday sun.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist at all times — no pseudobulbs, do not allow to dry out.
  • Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
