Masdevallia Pichincha 'Eruption' HCC/OSCOV

Masdevallia Pichincha is a Ray Thomson hybrid registered in 1993, a cross of Masdevallia Copper Angel × M. calocodon. Copper Angel itself carries M. veitchiana and M. triangularis in its background, so Pichincha combines the striking colour of veitchiana-line hybrids with the refined form of calocodon. 'Eruption' is a long-standing awarded clone, holding an HCC/OSCOV (Highly Commended Certificate), first recorded in 1994 and still highly regarded on the show bench three decades on.

• Flowering: Single flowers on erect spikes held clear of the foliage. A reliably floriferous clone.
• Flowers: Delicate white blossoms with contrasting markings, the combination that earned this clone its HCC/OSCOV.
• Plant: Compact Masdevallia habit. Easy to grow and vigorous when its cool conditions are met.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: 5°C to 22°C, cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth. It needs cool nights and is not suitable for warm climates.
• Light: Bright filtered light. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. There are no pseudobulbs, so do not allow it to dry out.
• Humidity and air: 60% or higher, with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
