Masdevallia Super Nova 'Beenak' FCC/AOC

Masdevallia Super Nova 'Beenak' FCC/AOC is the top awarded clone of this C. Halls hybrid (Masd. Starfire × Masd. Copperwing), registered by Mt Beenak Orchids in 2013. Both parents are Halls-bred hybrids with deep veitchiana background, and Super Nova represents the next step in that breeding line — larger flowers, richer colour, and heavier spotting than either parent. The FCC (First Class Certificate) from the Australian Orchid Council is the highest flower quality award available, requiring a score of 85% or above under formal judging. 'Beenak' is the nursery's own top selection from this grex. This is a division of that FCC-awarded clone. One of Clive's 7 FCC's.

What to expect

• Flowering: Single flowers on tall erect spikes held well clear of the foliage. Can carry multiple spikes simultaneously.
• Flowers: Large, warm burnt-orange with exceptionally dense dark red-purple spotting across all sepal surfaces and a long dark crimson tail. The spotting is heavier and more saturated than most orange hybrids — exactly what earned it an FCC rather than an HCC or AM.
• Plant: Vigorous and well-proportioned, reflecting the strength of the Halls breeding program.

Growing notes

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate. Avoid sustained warmth.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Water: Keep evenly moist at all times. No pseudobulbs means no water reserves — do not allow to dry out.
• Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred.
