What they're for

Any orchid seedling coming out of flask needs time to adjust to open conditions. The transition from the sterile, humidity-controlled environment of a flask to a shadehouse or growing bench is one of the highest-risk points in a young plant's life. A humidity dome bridges that gap — maintaining the moisture the seedling was raised in while it establishes roots in its first growing medium.

The 120mm size suits larger individual seedlings or community pots — a comm pot is a group of seedlings from the same flask potted together into a single container, rather than individually. Growing as a community lets seedlings stabilise together before being separated into individual pots later. Once plants are actively rooting and pushing new growth consistently, the dome comes off and they move into standard growing conditions.
