Sarcochilus Alliance (Plchs Harlequin × Fitzhart) × Sunny

This is an intergeneric Sarcochilus-alliance hybrid combining Plectorrhiza and Sarcochilus genetics, offered as a near-flowering-size seedling. The cross is (Plectorrhiza Harlequin × Fitzhart) × Sunny. 'Plchs' stands for Plectorrhiza, a small Australian epiphytic genus closely related to Sarcochilus, noted for contributing compact habit and bright yellow colouring to hybrids. It suits growers who want a compact plant with yellow flowers on upright spikes.

About this plant

The photographs show the two parent plants, not the seedling. Seedling flowers will draw on both parents and will vary between individual plants.

• Flowering: Spring to early summer. Multiple flowers per upright spike, held clear of the foliage.
• Flowers: Expected to draw on both parents: bright yellow with brown-red central markings from (Plectorrhiza Harlequin × Fitzhart), and creamy apricot tones from Sunny. Exact colour and pattern will vary between plants.
• Plant: Compact Sarcochilus-alliance habit, suited to pot or mounted culture.

Growing conditions

• Temperature: Cool to intermediate, within a range of 5°C to 26°C. Cool nights are needed. Avoid sustained heat.
• Light: Bright filtered shade. No direct midday sun.
• Humidity: 60% or higher.
• Water: Keep evenly moist year-round. There are no pseudobulbs and no dormancy, so do not allow the plant to dry out completely.
• Feeding: Balanced fertiliser through spring and summer at reduced strength, with good air movement to reduce fungal risk.

What you'll receive

One seedling in an 80mm pot. It is near flowering size (NFS), meaning it is close to flowering but not yet at flowering size. Plants are grown on-site in the Dandenong Ranges, packed on Sunday and sent on Monday. We ship plants only, not in flower, to reduce transit stress.
